Best of Both Brews

For two years, the Beerded Bean owner Eric Del Real pedaled his coffee beans and brew at area farmers markets six days a week. It’s not hard work if you’re passionate about what you do and besides, he had a vision. While building community with other farmers market vendors and customers, he had dreams of a venue that would serve up delicious coffee alongside a well-crafted beer (hence the business name Beerded Bean).

Earlier this year, the opportunity finally came when Rollick’s owner closed up shop in downtown Salinas. It was the right place at the right time. Rather than open up shop immediately, the three business partners (Eric Del Real, Michael Del Real and Ernest “Ness” Rodriguez) did what they always do. They took their time. They remodeled the interior, adding new furniture and a stage area for live music. Details matter to the Beerded Bean.

The Salinas community has taken to the place and it is becoming hard to find a seat during busy times. The owners had a vision to support live local musicians and many events have been standing-room-only, from a recent sold-out benefit concert in September 2019 to open mic nights.  The audience members have been very involved and supportive.

Part of the success of the venue is due to their patience. It may be all those years of learning the ins and outs of curating a great coffee roast. Then waiting for the right spot to open their coffee and beer venue. It’s always been about timing and making sure everything is just right. The patience pays off in November when Salinas will finally experience the Best of Both Brews, which has been their vision from the start.
Alvarado Street Brewery and Firestone Brewery will have representatives on site. Expect live music throughout the day, prizes and a grand prize drawing, as well as new merchandise for sale. If it’s like other events, it will be a packed house with a friendly vibe.

The Beerded Bean is located at 210 S. Main St. in Salinas. The grand re-opening is on Saturday, November 2, 2019 from 11:00 am to 9:00 pm.
